What is Lip-Sync?
Lip-sync is the process of creating a new script for a video, voicing it with different voice artists, then matching this new audio with the mouth’s movements of characters in the video. Lip-sync is a creative process which gives viewers a sense of authentic and immersive watching experience.
Lip-synced videos are a great choice if you want to appeal to more groups of international audiences, especially small children and those who can not read subtitles.
The differences between Lip-sync and Voice Replacement
criteria | Script Translation | Script Adaptation |
---|---|---|
Speaker dialogue | The original audio of a lip-synced video is muted while the whole script is re-written and voiced to sync to the lip movements of the speakers | The original dialogues are also muted and replaced by their translation in a foreign language without matching the speakers’ mouth movements. |
Features | Lip-sync gives viewers an immersive experience as voice artists capture:
| In voice replacement, only dialogues are replaced with audio in a new language while sounds like giggle, cough, and laugh are mostly removed. |
When to use? | Lip-sync should be used in movies, films or songs aiming to give viewers a seamless and immersive view experience. | Voice-over provides viewers with pretty good viewing experience at a cheaper price, suitable for tight-budget projects. |
